Frequently Asked Questions for Kendal Community Cinema

What is the age rating of the film packages?

We advise you to contact your local authority regarding the certification of the screenings. This is a free process, but may take a few weeks. For guidance, please visit the BBFC website. The films we recommend are for an audience of age 12+

When can I book my show?

Whenever you want! It must be the date you selected when placing the order, and contact us if this changes as we will need to issue a new distribution agreement. The community screening season runs from February to October each year.

Things to consider when choosing a show date:Are there other large community events scheduled that day/night?Are there any other festivals or touring events in your town? Are people more likely to attend if the show is on a weeknight or weekend? Is your ideal venue available? Take a look at their calendar of events.Does your community’s population fluctuate with the seasons? Are you likely to have more people in town at a certain time of year? Are there holidays or school breaks that could affect attendance?

How many times can I show the films?

Once. There are additional fees for additional screenings, these can be negotiated by contacting our Tour and Events Manager, jen.dickinson@mountainfest.co.uk

Can I select the films I want individually?

We have curated and licensed four different ready to play film packages, you may select the package you think will resonate with your audience the most. The films may be available individually, on a bespoke basis, for this please contact our Tour and Events Manager, jen.dickinson@mountainfest.co.uk

How long are the films?

Each package is made up of a collection of short films, which all vary in length. The total runtime will not exceed 90 minutes. When planning an event, we find that 120 - 150 minutes is enough to keep your audience entertained, with an interval and a competition/quiz or speakers.

How can I promote my event?

The cost of the films does not include a KME marketing package. However, in your deliverables you will find a number of graphics you may use on your socials in order to promote. You can drive your ticket sales by using social media to promote the event, especially by using existing accounts with an active following. We have found that creating a Facebook event, and using a dedicated ad campaign works well. Encourage your co-workers, friends, family, sponsors and/or partners to share your show's event on their social channels. Boost your Facebook event to your area or post on Instagram. Put up posters around town, and ask local shop owners if they would like to display them in their windows.

What is the name of my event?

Anything you want! Please refer to us as Kendal Mountain Events, and the film package is Kendal Community Cinema. For example - Local Cycling Festival with Kendal Community Cinema

How do I get the films?

Once purchased on our ticketing site, the film package and any other images, film descriptions and social graphics, will be emailed to the email address you used in the form. The film package is sent as a complete MP4, we are able to convert this to a DCP if required, please contact jen.dickinson@mountainfest.co.ukWill I need a technician to play the films? Most venues/cinemas have a dedicated tech staff member who can assist in operating the audio, lights and projection, however we have made this as simple as possible and is essentially a ‘plug and play’ operation. If you plan on making an event with extras (i.e presenter, raffle, speakers) we recommend you look into hiring a technician to assist.

Can I host a raffle as well?

Yes, you can hold a raffle at your event, but it’s important to keep things lively. Quick, well-organized raffles with a few exciting prizes are far more engaging than lengthy raffles with lots of items, which can slow down the event and lose the audience’s attention.

How do I sell tickets?

You can do it the old fashioned way, in person - on the door. Or you can use platforms like Eventbrite or Ticketsource (charges may apply) The ticketing solution you choose is entirely up to you.

Can I watch the films on my TV?

To watch films on your TV, the simplest way, if you have a laptop, is to plug it in to the TV with a cable.

Do I need a license or insurance?

By buying the film package from us, you have the film license to screen them once, on a selected day. The filmmaker agreement includes permission to share these films at community events. If you are selling tickets, you need to check that your venue has a premises licence for activities and entertainment. To obtain a day premises licence in the UK, you need to apply to your local authority, providing details of the proposed licensable activities, timings, and how you'll promote the licensing objectives. You'll need to submit an application form, a plan of the premises, and an operating schedule outlining your plans. The application process typically takes several weeks. If you are holding your event at a venue like a community centre or a cinema, they will already have public liability insurance - but we recommend you double check and receive confirmation from them.

My question isn’t here. Who should I contact? Please contact our Tour and Events Manager, Jennifer Dickinson at jen.dickinson@mountainfest.co.uk who will be able to assist you with any enquiries you have.

A handy checklist to help organise your event:Ensure all films are downloaded in advance.Confirm the size and capacity of the venue.Check if the venue has a valid premises license.Make sure the entire screen is visible from all audience areas.Arrange to test the sound and picture quality beforehand.Verify that the venue has public liability insurance.Plan for adequate staff and volunteers.Develop a marketing and advertising strategy.Consider offering additional activities (e.g., refreshments).
